WEAR AND TEAR AND LOCKSETS
Certain types of locks (especially the older type) use a straight spindle and are usually held on with set screws. Many times, with normal wear and tear, the set screws start to back out which causes the knob or lever to become loose. An application of glue on the set screw will prevent this from happening. These same locks have a tendency to squeak as they have become misaligned with use. Try removing the knob or lever and apply a small amount of lip balm on the hub which is the part that fits into the rosette.
